Scholarships recipients must attend the Knox County Beekeepers Association Beginner Beekeeping Class (class is free to high school students). Scholarships are not limited to Knox County residents.
Upon being awarded a Youth in Beekeeping Scholarship, recipients are asked to make a list of beekeeping items needed to get started. This list may include honey bees, hive parts, protective gear, a smoker, and other tools. Recipient are encouraged to research product costs and quality at different supply houses and compile a final list of items. The scholarship is for up to $300.00 in bees and/or beekeeping equipment.
Recipients may order from any bee supply house. Local suppliers: Simpson’s Bee Supply, and My Bee Supply LLC, have accounts for these transactions. If recipients order from other companies, they should save receipts and will be reimbursed by KCBA.
